At the cross road where blues and rock often meet one will find the
well crafted musical adventure that is known as the Moses Oakland
Quartet. The studio space was well enhanced this evening as the four
musicians stepped out to perform at this live recording session
for the TC
Muzique
program.
Moses Oakland with his 1966 Barney Kessel Gibson
guitar leads the quartet into action with Charles Fletcher on
bass, Jason Craft on keyboards and Donald Robertson at drums. The three
cameras well captured the individual musicians including Moses with
guitar and vocals, the uncommon six string bass action and the classic
Hammond organ with its rotary speaker cabinet.
Moses brought his music talents to the Twin Cities in 1987 from
his roots in San Franciso where his background included classical,
blues, jazz and the psychedelic scene of the sixties. He found a new
home with the Twin Cities blues clubs and formed this quartet around
1997. The band members combined talents and musical sensibilities has
crafted a sound that may not be strictly blues. Music rocks the soul
and senses along the musical spectrum and as Moses says "Specialize in not
specializing." The quartet has been playing regularly on sundays at
Famous Daves in Mpls. TC Muzique can be seen live on MTN cable
channel 17 on the day of the show at 8:30 pm CT and is expanding
to the MCN cable channel 6. Watch for future programs and shows are replayed.
