The Music Makers : Madbeli
The CD : Three song EP 2004
Songs : Tick Tock , Await , New
With Madbeli we are not speaking of a Mad Cow rock band or a Psychotic Hairless Cat raising cane beneath your bed at night. But more so to the point is this Quartet where one will find a touch of jazz, funk and rock elements that form the Madbeli soundscape. Becky bringing forth soft flowing vocals with Link often providing slices of funky jazz guitar work, and there is a somewhat delicate flowing bass and percussion work by Dave and Mark.
The
song ' Tick Tock ' is the more funky jazz work of the three songs.
"Listen to the clock . . . in my head . . . looking back . . . " There
is a time flowing aspect to the instrumental work with a circular motion around the vocals.
With ' Await ' there is a more so pop standard to the structure of the song.
Strikes out with a guitar progression that can pull you into the song and breaking with a deliberate ease for the vocals of Becky that are soothing and often there is a swelling as a quartet and ending with a fade away vocals and guitar.
And ' New ' brings across an element of a jazz lounge work where the atmosphere is set forth instrumentally for the soft and rolling vocals that rise with the lyrics. ". . . if i only could . . .come with me . . . i'll show you what it is to be free . . ." With a slight pause they break into a closing rally to end the song.
Lets say, I was in a desert on a horse with no name; the ride would strike out well with the song ' Tick Tock ' and the trip would break loose nicely with the song ' Await ', but a name would arise for the horse with the song ' New '.
Impressions : No urge to jump into a mosh pit or lock oneself in a closet. May wish to reach for a bottle of wine. The naked reality of music would dress up for this one.
Rating : Four whispers in the night with no metal horns.
