Karnevil Noir :
On a Wednesday night at First Avenue in downtown Mpls. we found an
event called Karnevil Noir - The Twin Cities Dark Fest. A gathering of
bands and fans providing a good time darker industrial-metal-gothic
mix. With the headliner 'Apocalypse Theatre' and the bands 'Vein', 'All
Flesh', 'Autonomy', 'Kontrol Panel' along with some additional
entertainment in between bands. Apocalypse Theatre is also known as
APOX and is brought together by lead singer Vvvv . APOX will often have
a different mix of members at each show as they tour out from one city
or event to another. With this show we saw Emily of the 'Menstrual
Tramps' up strong on bass along with additional percussion, a violin, dancers and Billy Fisk
of 'All Flesh' joined in on guitar for a couple songs. .

It was a good time dark
occasion, both in spirit and overall show performance. Didn't arrive in
time to see
'Vein', yet many may know of their industrial-gothic work with the song
"Frozen Statues". Fond followers of 'All Flesh' got to see additional
members in action as Billy Fisk brings forth the All Flesh Live Revival
with Evil Dawn, Tom, and Drok bringing additional impact to the
live performance. A solid original darksider song mix with a striving
performance level falling somewhat short of the overall impact of APOX.
Yet, few bands have the overall performance impact that APOX brings to
stage. The power trio that is Autonomy hit the stage well without
Rockula at drums. Ether is the voice and center stage bass man that
drives the dark rockin sound that scene fans are drawn into. Fans know
well their songs and the guitar work of Billy Graczyk. Don't
know much about 'Kontrol Panel' as I sat upstairs with others that well
noted how great it was to see them play again. Apparently they have not
played out for some time, yet may be out strong playing more shows in
the Twin Cities area. Many may very well know of APOX from their songs
'Needle Dreams' and
'Burning Death Star' along with videos 'Parasite' and 'Prophecy'. Alot
of charismatic appeal with APOX and the entire line-up for this event.
It can be a difficult task to fill the space of First Avenue, even more
so on a Wednesday night. Yet, a fair sized crowd enjoyed the show and
others may have wished it was on a Friday night and perhaps an 18+ show.

Note:
Autonomy had Matt Bachelor as guest drummer and there were certainly a
number of notable moments such as some of the dancers joining the crowd
and so forth.
