Coming together on this Thursday night in the Entry was an event called Alternasplx - Featuring Spanglish Rock by Los Chamanes, Cazadores, Drones and Raiz. An evening where ears tuned into Spanish or English found common ground as the music spoke for itself and the language of music rocked well for the crowd. Dropped into the Entry to see the 'Drones' , yet enjoyed seeing all the bands which brought forth a collective effort to showcase the rock influenced music within the Spanish speaking scene in the Twin Cities.
The 'Drones' are Fernando Hurtado on guitar, Moisés Soto on bass and Christian Rodríguez with vocals and samples bringing together the Drones heavy sound. They came to the Twin Cities from their home town Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico where they played in a number of bands . Moisés and Christian moved here in 1998 while Fernando finished college. With alot of material in the works they came together as a band in 2003 when Fernando arrived in the Twin Cities. They have a four song demo available and the songs are also at their website.
At the Entry they came across well with creative samples in place of live drums. They plan on adding a drummer to the band and perhaps a keyboardist to give the band a broader stage impact and free up Christian to focus more so on vocals. Even without live drums, they came out with a hardy set which included their popular song with fans 'Soledad' that ends with the phrase (Todos bailamos al son de la soledad…). Watch for them here in the Twin Cities.
