On this weekend, the eighth annual Art A Whirl festivities were in
progress around
the NE Mpls area which included the many art galleries and studios
along with music at some locations. At Grumpy's NE, ten bands gathered
to play a outdoor stage along side the tavern. The music began around
1:30 and went until about 10pm with a drum troupe closing out the
evening. The festivities included food, drink and music along with some
art work on display in the tavern. I was able to catch a few bands
along with the drum troupe which marched down the street into the
tavern and then back into the band area outside for a festive all drums
close to the night. The band 'Ear Candy' brought out their electro pop
sound and stage performance which went over rather well with the crowd.
Lady Bon Bon leads the band with keyboards, programmed drums and vocals
and Elizee and Jordache bring together the choreography and back up
vocals. They seem to wear different outfits for each show and on this
evening they were dressed in black with red and white jackets. The band
'Kruddler' is a trio ( Shane, Tony and Tim ) with an alternative punk
style that they like to
call "uncomfortably smooth". They can't go wrong with a song called '
Beer and a Half ' unless some people don't like beer. The band ' Mach
Fox ' brings forth an electro glam punk style with Mach Fox on vocals
and guitar at the helm along with TeA with back up vocals and Adam and
Dave with second guitar and bass. The band ' Vas ' slipped in for a
mini set as they were in town and played a set at the Turf club the
night before. The open air sound of bands playing at a small scale
location made for a enjoyable evening of good time fun festivities.

in the band area closed out the festivities with an all out drum
routine. Most of the people were in front of this photo as the night
time air was filled with the echoes of the drumming fire cracker
enhanced close.
Note : The complete line up of bands were the God Damn Doo Wap band, Artic Universe, The New Vintage, Ear Candy, SeaWhores, Kruddler, Mach Fox, Koalas, Hondo and Noise Queen Ant and Vas slipped in before Mach Fox. |
