Sunspot
At the Red Sea
|
A Saturday night can be more than alright in the Red
Sea green room as the band 'Sunspot' on tour from Madison, Wisc joined
'Ugly Fat Kids' and 'Kid Knuckle' for an evening of power pop
alternative punk mix. With a short set 'Kid Knuckle' kicked things off
and warmed up the room on this rather cold windy night in Mpls. The
band members that are 'Sunspot' survived the previous night with
'Thought Cloud' at the Terminal Bar and the after bar action at the
local musician hangout known as Area 52 where they took part in a jam
session. 'Sunspot' is Mike Huberty with vocals and bass, Wendy Staats
on Drums and vocals along with Ben Jaeger on guitar and vocals. They
are a power pop trio with a twist of good time punk attitude - a spunk
attack on the senses. Their latest CD is called 'Loser of the Year'
with the songs 'Prozac Girl' and 'When the Revolution Comes' making for
good examples of their work. No one in the crowd got sunburnt or needed
sunglasses for their performance even with the many bright moments in
their music and the hot spirited energy that heated up the action in
the crowd. Two festive gals in the crowd dug into their music and
joined them on stage towards the end of the set. The band also did a
sunny side up well done version of 'Ring of Fire'. The evening closed
out with the solid punk action of 'Ugy Fat Kids' which is
another band that stirrs things up well for scene fans.
