Rock the Suburbs in Maplewood, MN
|
|
Anticipation
with wings of expectation circled the night sky in the outskirts of the
Twin Cities. The suburbs, the northern suburbs with stage silent yet
creeping with the shadows on edge for 'All The Pretty Horses'.
It has been hours since the sun has departed this area we call
Minnesota leaving the clockwork of the night free to shake up The Rock
Night Club. Lurking in the distance is the forest that is the city and
if one could slice open the night sky with a feather - - there within the
out flow of fog and lights would emerge the rock band performance artists 'All The Pretty Horses'. The crowd was a mix of locals, supporters, fans and
curiosity seekers of something new, artistic or fringe. Some of the
locals were perhaps uneasy at first but seemed to be drawn into the
music as the show progressed. Some stood eyes fixed on the stage where
Venus in blue took command of center stage.
The
show moved forward with
the strength of Venus and the action of Shannon and Emily working the
crowd with additional lighting and dance moves. If one took to the view
of horses of different colors emerging from that distant fog and
transforming with each step into these stage characters, Venus does so
in a most striking manner with impact moments that weaves a lasting
impression. Perhaps the others toned down their performance somewhat
for this suburb appearence. Yet there seemed to be a brilliant green
glow with Emily and a rising golden orange with the drummer Jendeen.
Perhaps more ruby red than flaming red with Eden on bass.
The flare of Shannon rose with the closing grind and sparks.
The music,
musicianship, performance and individual creative efforts together
gives the bands music a worthy place on stage and recorded media. Have
a good listen to their music - 'Creature' is
the latest CD - and seek out their future shows.
