This evening at The Rock in Maplewood,
MN. was mostly about a birthday gathering for Brenda the bass
player for A:POD which has discontinued playing as a band for now. She
brought together a clever mix of bands with Quazar, S.M.B., Facecage
and Red Shift opening. Red Shift was out playing with perhaps a little
goofball edge to their performance as it was the last show for Dillon
as bass player for the band. Also the last night for the bass (
demolished ) as Dillon will be taking on the manager role for the band
with a new bass player to appear in the future. Facecage came up from
Iowa for Brenda and gave The Rock stage a taste of their hardcore
action. They took over the stage and most likely gained a few new fans
here as Matt and Fred worked the crowd well. S.M.B. which
has been known as Screaming Monkey Boner ( a name that may have women crossing their legs )
brought out their techno metal punk pop mix to entertain the crowd. Apparently, one
can now refer to S.M.B. as you wish - - Screaming Mechanical Brain is
one name that has come up along with Somebody Made Breakfest and Spell
Mom Backwards. The name that crossed my mind was Snail Mail Bride.
Quazar is a high calibur band with exceptional energy and musicianship
which has been a favoride among many musicians around the twin cities scene. They have
been on and off the scene over the pass five years or so. All these bands
will likely be out playing the Twin Cities and the midwest touring
scene. Apparently , Brenda is without a band to play with at this time but will likely find
a new project for her bass playing talents.
