A thursday night with diversity on the rock menu. Three bands, each
with a particular flavor of electro, industrial and metal blend to
twist and stirr up ones musical thirst for the distinct style that each
bring to the Twin Cities scene. The event was
brought together with the bands and Chad Liljegren, whom with
introductions also hosted this evening and the ticket drawing at the
end of the show, along with RockWatch envolved as a promotional sponsor. The
three bands that came together for this show were 'Uber Cool Kung Fu', followed by the
'Drones' and 'Niobium' closing out the night. There was a good vibe in the club as
the bands and crowd mix gathered at The Rock Nightclub in Maplewood,
MN.
The stage was well set for the evening with 'Uber Cool Kung Fu' preparing to hit the crowd with the UCKF sound. They work among a number of bands that are the mix in the electro punk scene in the Twin Cities. UCKF is Jesse with vocals and guitar, Adam with keyboards and guitar, Geoff at drums and Shawn with bass. Many may well know their music with the songs "Hollywood Kills", "Letting Go" and "Tonite" from their recent album with Omega Point Records. UCKF has a sharp electro energy with a pop punk edge for your new wave senses that makes for a good time drink with both the younger and older crowd mix. An uber cool good time is likely to be found with their shows. Catchy tunes and fun shows. With spanish and english lyrics, 'Drones' bring together a heavy edged driving industrial sound scape with a taste of their roots from down under in Mexico. In 2003, the 'Drones' began forming as a band and started playing the Twin Cities scene in 2004. Christian Rodriguez handles the vocals and keyboard samples with Moises Soto on guitar and Fernando Hurtado on bass. They have been giving away a four song promotional EP as they work on recording a full length due out in early 2006. All dressed in red this evening, they hit the crowd well as friends, supporters and fans are always hungry to take in another show. They do have plans to add a live drummer and keyboard member; a search which may take a while to find the right fit for the band. Not uncommon, for many bands have had their long search for new or additional members. The band 'Niobium' has come together in the Twin Cities and began playing out regular this summer. They bring to stage a psychedelic tribal trance metal approach with video screen and the action of performance artists. On this evening their performance included dancers along with the keyboards and didgeridoo action that stands out as part of their over all tribal metal atmosphere. There's a trance metal flow with two or three of them often envolved in the vocals; a flow which is enhanced as one takes in the video screen and performance action of their additional tribal crew. They can be found at their Myspace page and playing around the Twin Cities area.
