Ugly Fat Kids and D.M.R.E.

- - - - - -
Dropped by Star Central on this wednesday night to see what U.F.K. and D.M.R.E. were up to along with perhaps seeing some of a new band called Pillow Fist. It was a bit on the quiet side along the bar and among the table as the evening began. The Ugly Fat Kids have been around since 1999 bringing forth a power pop punk mix where ever they play. Here we have the popeyed Jamie on guitar and vocals and the punkster Leo on bass with his riding low trousers. They bring out the quick punches of punk and snappy pop lines as they play with the crowd during and between songs. Leo delivered a somewhat boy girly version of 'Girls just want to have fun'. Jamie hits the crowd up front with guitar work and the punk punched lyrics and Leo will pop out some lines like 'are we ready to grind crotch'. A fun band with alot of spunk. D.M.R.E. have been out playing now and then with their brand of hardcore metal. A fusion of punk attitude and metal impact with a high energy performance edge. Recently Eric and Ross have been out playing with a new bass player by the name of Drew. It sounds like they are working towards putting out a CD and have some songs up at purevolume.com. Currently one can find them playing with U.F.K. every sunday at the Blue Nile in Mpls. I was able to hang around awhile to see some of Pillow Fist  and mingle with the crowd. They seem to have a 70's meets 80's metal approach. Some on hand that I spoke with seem to agree that they have a sort of Jim Morrison meets Danzig and Type O Negative. A good mix of bands this evening for Twin Cities fans to check out.
