- - This interview took place mid July 2004 Brian Huebner and Glen Wilde of 'Cold Colours' By Phillip Kramer at RockWatch

PK : In the color spectrum, what are some of the cold colours?
BRIAN : ummmmmm GLEN : I ususally think of Blue and Grey. I suppose purple is also one
PK : Whats with the title ' Somnium XIII ' for your older full length CD?
BRIAN : the band
was originall called WOLFTHORN and while recording the album, I decided
to change the name of the band to COLD COLOURS. my aol screen name was
Somnium13 so i decided to use that as the album title so people would
still know it was me. somnium is latin for dream and with 13 being the
unlucky number it basically means "unlucky dream"
PK : What would you like to say about ' Autumn Reign ' and some of the
other songs on the ' S-13 ' CD?
BRIAN : "autumn
reign" would best be called our "signature" song. it pretty much sums
up what we are about. i wrote that album as it was pretty much a solo
album, but the band has now put their mark on it to make it their own.
GLEN : all i know is, there's never been a live CC show that didn't have a version of Autumn Reign in the setlist.
PK : Is there a story behind the heart on the Cold Colours EP, Banner and website? BRIAN
: I just like bands to have a symbol. we had one on the "somnium XIII"
but it made no sense. a broken heart just goes with our lyrical content.
PK : What's the title of your upcoming full length CD and in what ways is it
different from your previous work?
BRIAN : The new cd
will be called "the burden of hope." This is much more of a cohesive
album. "somnium xiii" was all over the place, this one has more of a
common theme. the biggest thing is this is an album as a BAND. like i
mentioned "somnium xiii" was pretty much just me. the songs are
definitley less heavy musically. the melodies are more sing-alongish.
GLEN : This record has got a lot more of the trippy pink floyd vibe than
the old record did and a lot more focus on choruses, melodies, and
hormonies.alot of that has to do with the fact that it took four years
to write the album and that everyone is contributing to the songwriting.
PK :
What are some of your songs you enjoy most playing live? BRIAN
: Autumn Reign and the Last Regret. and now seeing people singing
"breathe in" which will be on the new album is so awesome!
GLEN : The Last Regret, Breathe In. I enjoy coming up with outrageous cover songs and seeing the initial reaction to them.
PK : What is 'Pure North American WUSS metal' that you have on
your last t-shirt design?
BRIAN : hehe. for
those underground metal guys! bands like mayhem and dark throne always
have shirts with "pure norweigan black metal" of death metal bands with
"pure fxxking death metal." alot of people have called us wuss metal in
the past, so why not play along!!!
GLEN : Yeah, we decided it was just easier to insult ourselves than to let others do it for us.
PK : Are there any songs in the world of music that you love to hate? GLEN : There's a whole list on the message board of our website.
PK :
What are some of your favoride old school metal songs and dark realm tracks?
BRIAN : hmmm. if you want to get what cold colours is all about, check
out the bands SENTENCED, MY DYING BRIDE, ANATHEMA, SIRRAH and THE
GATHERING and i think you'll get it. as far as old school? certain
songs?

my influences are usually more along the lines of Scott Rockenfeld (queensryche)
or Roger Taylor (queen)
PK :
Brian, who are some of your favoride guitar players and singers? BRIAN
: Best guitar players in my book. piggy (voivod) and robert fripp (king
crimson.) vocalists : midnight (crimson glory,) geoff tate
(queensryche,)
ray alder (fates warning,) tony harnell (tnt,) and of course rob halford!
PK : It looks like everyone in the band sings at some point during your sets,
is there one song where everyone in the band has a vocal part?
GLEN : Not Anymore, at one point we were all singing in the
bridge of a tune called Stolen Sigh (on the new record) but we didn't
record it that way. There's still four voices on it though. We all used
to just kind of sing whenever we felt like it when we played Rebel
Yell. Mainly Brian, Joe, Jon and myself concentrate on vocals.
PK : From a musical stand point, what other country would you like to have been born?
BRIAN : Finland, dark metal. GLEN : England, british metal.
PK : What are some of your favoride local minnesota bands?
BRIAN and GLEN :
Down and Above, B ! , Aesma Daeva, All the Pretty Horses, Epicurean,
Revelence, Impaler, Demonicon, Terrtism, Alva Star, In the Morning,
Intendo, Cwn Annwn . . .

BRIAN and GLEN : Belinda Carlisle, Alissa Milano, Suzanna Hoff, Nicole Eggert . . .
